Yup, it's that time to break out the holiday decorations and pick up that tree - or set up the plastic one, which my husband won't surrender to but would save us quite the mess and hassle. I have to admit that I'm the type of person who often waits to the last minute to put seasonal or party décor up, and takes
forever to take them down.
I am typing this just below a baby picture garland I made for my
daughter's first birthday party in May. But beyond just being plain lazy at times, I like decorations that are cool year-round, because I'm no mommy blogger coming up with brilliant or cutesy DIY projects every week, much less each year. I've made two garlands in one year, and they are neither brilliant nor cutesy. And neither are we, most of the time.
With that in mind, our household is committed to decorations that rock year-round, with a little edge. Just because we have a toddler running round, it doesn't mean the house has to look like she completely has the run of the place.
Here are some "musical" decorations that we dig, and you could probably tell which ones I chose and which ones our resident
Daddy in Training (aka husband) picked.

Guitar-Pick Mobile from Rooks Paper Scissors
When we have guitar picks in the house we always lose them, so these would surely be handy and cool!
Old Guitar Shelf
Considering our daughter broke her first guitar after just a couple months, this is the ideal way to give it new life.
Open Drumstick Chandelier by Laurie Elyse
Just plain cool.
Vinyl Record Skulls by Ted Riederer
Ahem, daddy pick, for the records you don't want. Of course, your Rockabye Baby vinyl will always be safe.

Get your future rocker started early, right?
Neon Umbrella from ThinkGeek
You're scratching your head over this one? Me, too.
"Nothing says 1980s futuristic cool like a Blade Runner neon umbrella. Now imagine a ceiling covered with these neon beauties," my husband. "Like moths to a porch light, you will be mesmerized by their warm soothing glow. And it also helps if you have a leaky roof like at our house."
I guess I know what he wants for Christmas.
